The short answer

What is the Uptown Funk meme?

Uptown Funk AI is the TikTok trend where one photo becomes the lead singer of a retro street music video set to Uptown Funk, and AI Meme Videos makes that 15-second clip from your photo with the song already on it.

Uptown Funk AI puts an ordinary person at the front of a music video that looks lifted from 2014: a gray brick street, a crew of backing dancers in loud jackets and sunglasses, and the lead singing straight down the lens while the band struts behind. The track is Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, and the edit cuts on its beat between tight close-ups and wide shots of the whole line dancing.

On TikTok the trend spread as "Uptown Groove AI", a PixVerse template that swaps a photo into the lead role. Posts are usually split-screen: one take on top, a second person below, so viewers compare who pulls off the swagger better. Some creators swap the backing dancers too; one of the most played versions we found keeps the lead human and turns the whole crew into fluffy cats in waistcoats.

AI Meme Videos does the same thing without the app: upload one photo and you get a 15-second clip of you leading the street dance, with the song laid under it so it is ready to post.

4 steps

How to do the Uptown Funk trend

01

Upload one photo

A clear photo of one person, face visible, ideally from the waist up so there is an outfit to dance in.

02

Pick a model and quality

Standard at 720p is the default and costs 10 credits; 480p costs 5.

03

Generate

Your 15-second Uptown Funk clip comes back in a few minutes with the song already on it.

04

Stack it and post

For the split-screen look, put two renders on top of each other in your editor, then post with #uptownfunk or #uptowngroove.

Under the hood

Where it came from and how it is made

AI edits of the Uptown Funk video were already on TikTok in mid October 2026, mostly parodies that dropped famous faces into the song. The oldest one AI Meme Videos found in TikTok search was posted on 14 October. We do not show those, and the generator never makes real celebrities.

From 22 October a wave of tutorials appeared under captions like "Make your own Uptown Groove AI trend clip", walking viewers through copying a video link into PixVerse and uploading a photo. That is when most of the posts with ordinary people as the lead started appearing. Our radar marked the trend as spreading on 23 October 2026.

The version with the cat-headed dancers, posted by @sergirodriguz on 21 October, had about 29,000 plays when we checked on 28 October 2026. Who built the first template is unconfirmed.

You as the lead

Your face, hair, build and clothes come from your photo. The reference performer's blonde hair and outfit are explicitly left out.

The edit

A 15-second reference clip sets the rhythm of the cuts: close-up, strut, close-up, wide freeze, hands up, finale.

A crew of nobodies

The backing dancers are generic retro dancers. The prompt rules out any real singer or celebrity face.

The song

Uptown Funk is laid under the finished clip, so the shoulder rolls and the freeze land where people expect them.

Straight talk

Before you upload

For the best result

  • Dress the part. A photo in a bold shirt, a jacket or a hat suits the music-video look better than a gym top.
  • Confidence reads. A photo with a smirk or a big smile carries through the close-ups; a passport face looks out of place in front of a dancing crew.
  • Do the duet. Make one for you and one for a friend and stack them, the way most Uptown Groove posts compare two leads.
  • Keep it to one person. Crop a group photo down to the one person who should be the lead.

Good to know

  • One photo in, one 15-second clip out.
  • You lead a retro street dance crew in the style of the Uptown Groove template.
  • Uptown Funk is laid under the clip.
  • Standard 720p costs 10 credits, 480p costs 5; credits come back if a render fails.
  • No celebrity faces: the lead is you and the crew is generic.
